Tonda Thomas - Bates

Tonda Bates is a dedicated leader, mentor, and advocate with a heart for service. A mother of six and wife to Jason for 10 years, she brings a wealth of experience and compassion to her work. With 17 years as an Advanced Cosmetologist, Tonda has not only honed her skills in the beauty industry but has also spent over two decades mentoring youth and coaching cheerleading.
Her passion lies in caring for others, raising awareness of global suffering, and inspiring acts of kindness rooted in love, grace, and gratitude. Through her role at RenU, Tonda is committed to empowering women and fostering meaningful change.
Kim Bostater
Hospitality & Church Relations
Kim Bostater has a heart for service and a deep connection to the people of Kenya, having traveled there twice. Her experiences with the children and adults have profoundly shaped her perspective on gratitude, unconditional love, and finding joy in life’s simplest moments.
She is honored to be part of a ministry that embodies James 1:27—"Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress." Through her role in Hospitality and Church Relations, Kim is committed to fostering meaningful connections and supporting the mission of RenU with love and faith.
Ryan Bostater, M.Ed.
Founder & President
Ryan Bostater is an experienced educator, leader, and advocate with a deep commitment to serving the fatherless. With over a decade of teaching experience in Ohio, he has also been traveling to Kenya since 2012, leading multiple teams dedicated to making a lasting impact.
Before founding Unafaa in 2018, Ryan served on two nonprofit boards, gaining valuable experience in leadership and humanitarian efforts. As the director of Unafaa’s Hope Teams, he is passionate about providing hope, support, and sustainable solutions for those in need, ensuring that every life touched by the ministry is empowered and uplifted.
Courtnie Kuhn
Executive Chair & Publications
Courtnie Kuhn is a dedicated educator and advocate with a passion for serving the most vulnerable. As an Intervention Specialist, she is committed to helping those often considered "the least of these," ensuring they receive the care and support they need to thrive.
Her love for teaching extends beyond the classroom and into the mission field. Having participated in multiple overseas mission trips to work with children, Courtnie’s heart for service continues to grow. She is excited to see where God leads Unafaa and is honored to play a role in furthering its mission of hope and empowerment.
Loren Kuhn, M.Min.
Community and Church Relations
Loren Kuhn has a deep love for the gospel, diverse cultures, and serving others. He has lived in the Philippines and China and participated in mission trips across four continents and over ten countries.
With experience in higher education and church ministry, he currently serves as the Director of Administration and Mission Team Lead at Southgate Baptist Church in Springfield. Now in his second term on Unafaa’s board, Loren is honored to help advance its mission. In 2024, he traveled to Kenya, witnessing firsthand the organization’s life-changing impact.
